Motorist captures portion of police chase on cellphone camera

HOUSTON – Danny Juarez was one of several people stuck at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Tidwell Road on Monday when police were going car to car looking for a suspected bank robber.

When the driver of an SUV refused an officer's orders to roll down his window, Juarez pulled out his cellphone and started recording.

"I really couldn't believe what I was seeing," Juarez said.

Juarez at first couldn't understand why the man wouldn't follow the officer's orders.

"I was shocked," Juarez said. "He looked so calm."

What Juarez didn't know was there was a bank robbery a few miles away and police chased the getaway car to the intersection.

Juarez watched as the driver of the SUV suddenly drove forward before officers smashed the window. He then heard sirens and tires squeal as officers chased the SUV into the parking lot of a restaurant. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran, but he was quickly arrested.

The driver of the SUV is in jail facing felony charges.
