Couple speaks after ex-boyfriend fatally shot

TOMBALL, Texas – For the first time, a Tomball couple involved in a shooting that left the woman's ex-boyfriend dead is speaking out.

Regina Treadwell says the trouble began in December when she broke up with Billy Ray Doyle. She says Doyle would show up uninvited at her work and her home.

"I just thought he would eventually get the message 'go away, leave. We've told him to stop several times," she told Channel 2 News.

Treadwell says the harassment escalated when she began dating Derrick Anderson two months ago.

"He just didn't like me," Anderson said.

A few days before the shooting, the couple says, Doyle returned to their home in Canyon Gate and attacked Anderson.

"The last words he said when he left was 'that's just a taste of me, I'm gonna be back for you,'" Anderson said.

They say Doyle made good on his threat, showing up yet again late last Tuesday night.

The couple heard the alarm on one of their cars going off, and Anderson grabbed his gun and went to investigate.

"I was checking the vehicles out and he come out of the bushes," Anderson said.

Anderson said Doyle held a brick above his head and charged him.

"I pulled my firearm, which I had in my waistband and I immediately shot," he said. "He was on me; if I would not have pulled the trigger when I did, I would've been wearing a brick."

Now, the couple says they are struggling to deal with a tragedy they say has changed them forever.

"I feel for the family," Anderson said.

Treadwell agreed, saying, "I'll be forever impacted by the loss of another person. A death that happened here on my lawn and in our lives."

A Harris County grand jury will decide whether any charges will be filed.
