1 killed, 2 injured during shooting inside Alief barber shop

ALIEF, Texas – One man is dead and two others hurt following a shooting at a barber shop in the Alief section of southwest Houston.

Police said an argument erupted inside Chop Shop Barber Shop in the 8500 block of Cook Road on Tuesday night. A gunman opened fire, shooting one man in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man was shot in the leg; another in the abdomen. Investigators said they hope to speak with them as they search for leads.

The gunman remains on the loose.

Throughout the morning Wednesday, customers stopped by the barber shop to find out what happened.

"Nothing like that happens around here, not in the barber shop," said Pedro Rivera.

He and Rob Johnson drove to the barber shop in search for answers.

"This area right here is usually a good spot where everybody comes to keep cool," Johnson said.

The barber shop is in the same strip mall as a day care center. The owner told KPRC 2 News that the day care center was closed when shots rang out.

Parents are shaken up by what happened.

"You never know. The kids play outside they have a time when kids play outside; so, it's pretty dangerous," Lidia Bertial said.
