HOUSTON – Police are searching for a man accused of robbing a Galleria-area pawn and jewelry store.
In a surveillance photo, he can be seen with a gun. He then smashed the glass on the jewelry display case and took off with a lot of merchandise.
"They seem to always get a couple hundred-thousand dollars' worth of jewelry, whether it be watches and jewelry and diamonds, whatever," said Steven Silver.
Silver is a local gemologist who runs the Texas Jewelry Security hotline. It's his job to make sure all jewelry store owners in Houston know about robberies, so they can better protect themselves.
"There have actually been 10 armed robberies since June in the greater Houston area. Majority of them are happening in southwest Houston," Silver said.
He thinks the suspect could be connected to other incidents in Houston, as well. The surveillance pictures are from another robbery a few weeks ago.
Exotic Diamonds on Westheimer was targeted the same way -- an armed man walked in and smashed the glass to get his hands on a lot of expensive jewelry.
