Chris Bell running for Houston mayor 15 years after first attempt

The former U.S. Congressman first ran for mayor in 2001

HOUSTON – Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell is throwing his hat in the ring for the mayor of Houston.

On Sunday, the democrat will officially announce his candidacy in downtown Houston.

Bell posted the plans to announce Wednesday on Twitter.

He is asking supporters to join him Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Sam Houston Park on Bagby Street.

Bell represented Texas' 25th Congressional District from 2002-2005.

He ran for Houston mayor in 2001 but was not successful.

Bell also ran for Texas governor in 2006 against three other candidates.
