Freebie Friday, Postal service holiday plan

Kid-friendly apps collect tons of data

HOUSTON – The U.S. Postal Service is stepping up its game- getting ready for an onslaught of holiday shopping.

Carriers will deliver seven days a week for five weeks, Staring Sunday, Nov. 23. That's up from the three Sundays it made deliveries last year. The Postal Service is expecting to handle more than 15 billion cards and packages- up to about 12 percent from last year because online shopping is expected to be up too.

Smartphone games and apps are great for keeping little ones occupied for those few minutes when you need to get something done. But a new study also found those apps aimed at kids are the worst at invading privacy.

Computer researchers at Carnegie Mellon University graded dozens of Android apps.

Some of the worst according to PrivacyGrade.org are "My Talking Tom", and "Fruit Ninja" because they say the apps share your data with advertisers without asking your consent.

Today's Freebie Friday is brought to you by Cornelius Nursery.

Their open house is at two locations on Friday or Saturday. It's their big Christmas reveal and it will definitely get you in the holiday spirit.

There are eight themed trees, such as the Downton Abbey tree, or the Homestead tree. They'll have free refreshments, and live demonstrations to teach you how to make your own beautiful bows and centerpieces.

And only for Local 2 viewers- free pansies! The first 50 customers at each location this morning beginning at 9:00 a.m., either on South Voss or North Dairy Ashford on the west side, will get one of these 4-inch pansies.
