Alvin High School coach accused of inappropriate relationship with student

HOUSTON – A former Alvin High School coach has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student who has since graduated from Alvin High School.

Neighbors say 44-year-old Garret Taylor lives in the Manvel neighborhood of Southfork with his family.

A truck registered in his name also lists the address. Residents of Alvin were caught off guard by the allegations.

"I'd be mortified if that happened to my children," said Candace Harrell. "That would not be a good scene."

Alvin ISD's spokesperson said Taylor was the former girls power lifting coach at Alvin High School until last October.

That's when police began investigating allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a graduate that dated back to 2008 when the student was enrolled. They say he was escorted off campus and placed on administrative leave as soon as the investigation began. They say he resigned shortly after.

Katie Eixman -- a former member of the team who graduated in 2012 -- says Taylor was a vital part to their championship success.

"He's very supportive, very liked," said Eixman. "He was there to help you. Never, like, anything strange. He's always a great coach. I mean, I just. I was surprised when I heard it, I guess."

Taylor's arrest comes just a week after police arrested a now former Alvin High teacher on charges of possession of child pornography. Scott Burns was accused of using former students as models in risque photos and paintings.
