GALVESTON, Texas – A two-vehicle crash caused an ambulance to overturn Sunday afternoon in Galveston, officials said.
The incident was reported at Broadway Avenue and 21st Street.
Officials said a white Toyota collided with the ambulance, causing it to overturn.
Officials said five people were involved in the crash. Police said the ambulance was on its way to a call.
Inside the ambulance, both the driver, a paramedic, and a student intern who was riding in the back of the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Officials with the Galveston County Health District said both the driver and the intern were taken to UTMB Medical Center with minor injuries, bumps and bruises.
The two people in the white Toyota were not injured.
The Galveston Police Accident Reconstruction Team was still on the scene at 11 p.m. Sunday night.
The ambulance, operated by The Galveston Area Ambulance Authority, was on its side for hours until a wrecker was called to put the truck back upright.
An investigation into what caused this accident is underway, and drug and alcohol tests will be part of that investigation.
According to sources at the scene, the ambulance was en route to an emergency call with its lights and sirens on when the driver of the white Toyota slammed into the side of the ambulance as it was heading east on Broadway.
The crash caused the ambulance to spin around and flip over onto its rooftop.
