HOUSTON - Two people were hospitalized after shots were fired at a birthday party attended by singer Chris Brown and other rappers Sunday night in the 3400 block of Liberty Road in the Fifth Ward area.
What witnesses said started as a birthday party for a rapper from Houston grew as word quickly spread on social media about the special guests. KPRC 2 spoke to partygoers who said the event was not sponsored by Brown.
Police said they were called to the party for crowd control at 7:30 p.m., but the shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. A 22-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were hit.
One of the victims is in serious condition. The other is in stable condition.
Chris Brown has a concert at Toyota Center on Monday night.
Local hip hop artists Just Brittany and Trae were at the party, along with nationally known hip hop artists Meek Mill and Tyga, according to posts on Instagram.
"It could have been (done) better than that," Jyrie Polk, who attended the party, said. "They could have waited until the birthday party was over."
The Houston Police Department is looking for the shooter. Police said they know there were a lot of people who witnessed the shooting, but few people are talking.
KPRC 2 received the following statement from Brown's spokesperson:
"Chris was not at the party at the time of the incident. He had left earlier in the evening."31827794
