PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Prairie View A&M University confirmed Friday that two of its top police officers will not return to the school.

KPRC Local 2 has confirmed that Chief Algray Pettus and Lt. David Webb are no longer with the university. A university representative would not say why.

By phone, the former chief told KPRC Local 2 that it was not his decision to leave. He said the university decided to go in a different direction. He declined to say anything more.

The university's executive director of communications said, "After a review of departmental operations, the Prairie View A&M University Department of Public Safety is experiencing a change in leadership.  At this time, the DPS staff and contracted security officers are ensuring normal operations. The department will continue to function with no interruption. In accordance with university policy, we do not discuss personnel issues."

The university spokesperson would not talk about why the two are gone.  But did say it was not a single incident that led to their departure.
