2 killed, 5 injured in head-on collision

ABILENE, Texas - Two people were killed and five others injured in a car crash in Taylor County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to the scene of a two vehicle, head-on collision on Friday at 8:21 p.m.  The crash happened at the intersection of Texas 36 and County Road 107 -- known locally as Potosi Road.

Highway patrolmen said 27-year-old Jeffery Davis was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup on Potosi Road.  When he turned onto Texas 36, Davis disregarded the stop sign and slammed into a 1996 Ford pickup with six Abilene Christian University students inside.

According to reports, Jeffery Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.  Lindsey Lee Smith, 20, also died in the crash.

Robert Braddock, 20, Eric Terrazas, 20,Calli Kerbo, 18, Rebekah Cherniss, 18, and Deanna Lynn Romero, 19, were all injured and taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

The crash is still under investigation.
