"Dateline NBC" often hears from inmates, but this letter seemed a little different. Maybe because the letter included tantalizing bait:

"I will give you one hell of a story," the letter to "Dateline NBC" read.

That was definitely the truth. The stream of words on the letter revealed a seething story about two home-grown women -- Robin and Katie -- friends from church who fell hard for the same sweet guy and then somehow turned on one another with a vengeance.

The dizzying spiral of betrayal and bad blood between the women exploded into violence and ended in a merciless nighttime murder.

But hold onto your hat. Nothing is what it seems.

Josh Mankiewicz reports at 8 p.m. Friday on all new "Dateline" two-hour, real-life mystery on KPRC Channel 2.
