2 die in crash in parking lot

HOUSTON – Two people died in a crash in a southwest Houston gas station parking lot Monday.

Investigators said two people had just filled up their car at a Shell gas station at 2525 Kirby Drive at the Southwest Freeway at 12:20 a.m. when a speeding car slammed into them.

Police said the driver, Theodore Alolphus Hargrove, 33, was high on the drug, PCP, when he ran a red light.

"There was a blue Impala waiting to leave the parking lot, like he was going to turn right onto the service road. (The suspect) hit the side of the car at a high rate of speed. Two occupants inside the vehicle died on the scene -- a male and female," said Sgt. Sorge with the Houston Police Department.

The victims were identified as Meagan Jones and 24-year-old Ricardo Quinton.

Crash at Shell gas station

Witnesses said the driver appeared to not realize what was going on after the crash. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.

Sherrill Avant works at the Shell station and ran to help.

"I looked and saw the cars, came back in and got the phone to call 911. I went back to check on the lady to see if she was OK. She wasn't breathing," Avant said.

"It's the worst type of situation. You are trying to make some purchases at the gas station and their lives are tragically ended so quickly," Sorge said.

Officials said Hargrove will face two counts of intoxication manslaughter. Sources told KPRC Local 2 that the suspect has a previous record including evading arrest, driving with a suspended license and a drug charge.

Part of the Highway 59 feeder road at Kirby Drive was closed during the investigation.
