George Aguilar, 36, and Adrian Aguilar, 42, have been charged with murder. George Aguilar has been taken into custody, but Adrian Aguilar has not been arrested.

Pasadena police said the shooting happened as two vehicles headed eastbound on Vista about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The driver of the vehicle that was fired upon pulled into Houston Garden Centers on Beltway 8 near Vista.

The victim, Yolanda Aguilar, 58, was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

Investigators said the shooter and the victim are related.

One of the relatives invited the other to participate in drug activity, detectives said. The invitee declined the offer and a family conflict began, officials said.

Aguilar was a passenger in the vehicle, investigators said. Her husband was driving the vehicle and may have been the intended target, police said.

"They were trying to kill me," Yolanda Aguilar's husband said. "My niece was living with this guy who used to do a lot of coke. He tried to get my son to help him sell some. We never do no coke or marijuana or nothing like that."

George Aguilar was the driver of of the vehicle from which the shots were fired, police said. Investigators have not said what role Adrian Aguilar played in the killing.

Anyone with information regarding Adrian Aguilar's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
