2 burglars stole $14,000 worth of items while homeowner asleep, police say

HOUSTON – Jay Emmons, a roofing contractor from Katy, still can't believe two thieves came in and burglarized his home Dec. 5 while he was asleep in his bedroom.

Emmon said it was strange and disheartening the way they got inside.

He said they made a copy of his key and just opened the front door.

Emmon said when he woke up, his cellphone was missing on the dresser table next to him and his wallet was gone.

“I mean, they came in while I was asleep, into my bedroom. Scary,” he said.

One of the burglars was caught on a surveillance camera. Emmon identified the burglar as a man who used to work for him.

Emmon said he had befriended  weeks ago

“I felt kind of betrayed. As a guy, I've gone out of my way to be kind too and -- you know -- welcomed (him) into my home. And I felt betrayed by him weeks before the burglary,” Emmon said.

He said the guy had dinner at his home and that Emmon lent him his keys at one point.

Harris County sheriff's deputies have warrants out for Heidi Hubbard and 37-year-old Leonardo Rodriguez on charges of burglary of a habitation for stealing electronics, a Mac book, IPhones, televisions and checks for his banking account, Emmon said.

Emmons said the two thieves stole more than $14,000 in belongings from his home.

Emmon said he worries about who they will target next.

“It's the holiday season, and to do that to somebody during the holidays -- that's just kind of heartless and coldblooded,” he said.
