HOUSTON - Two people have been arrested and another is wanted in connection with an identity theft case in Harris County, officials said Wednesday.

Harris County deputies said the investigation was launched June 22 after two people tried to use fake identification at a Wells Fargo bank to access a home equity line of credit in Florida. Authorities were called to the bank and were able to arrest the pair, deputies said.

Those arrests led to a search warrant being served July 5 and a third person being charged.

Investigators said the scheme was to open a new account, transfer funds from the credit account valued at more than $200,000 to the new account and then have a cashier’s check issued from the new account.

Epheson Fikru and Shawn Adrian were charged with first-degree engaging in organized criminal activity.

Kevin Washington was charged with tampering with a government record.

Washington and Fikru were arrested and released from jail on bond.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Adrian.
