Alleged drunken driver charged in crash that killed 2 adults, injured 2 children

Clark Dumesnil charged with 2 counts murder, 1 count intoxication manslaughter

KATY, Texas – The family of a couple killed by an alleged drunken driver is struggling to raise money for burial costs, and to pay medical bills for the couple's two small children, who remain hospitalized.

Alejandro Aguirre, 39, and Maurilia Carmen Meza, 33 were pronounced dead after their truck collided head-on with another truck on FM 529 near Peek Road around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The couple's son, Osiel, 2, and 4-month-old daughter, Alexa, were strapped into child safety seats in the rear seat of the truck. Both survived the crash. Alexa is listed in stable condition. Osiel underwent surgery Monday to close a gash on his head. He may have suffered a concussion.

The driver of the other truck, Clark Dumesnil III, 35, allegedly swerved into the path of Aguirre's vehicle from the oncoming lane.

“There was a pickup truck headed eastbound on FM 529 that went left of center, collided with the pickup truck that was going westbound and spun the truck around. That truck went into the ditch, killing the two parties in front, the adults in the vehicle,” said Sgt. Mike Harvey, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Dumensnil also had two children in his vehicle, identified as Emori and Baux Dumensnil. Both children were checked out at a hospital, but neither was seriously hurt according to HCSO investigators.

An infant and a toddler in child safety seats were in the back seat. Paramedics flew them to Memorial Herman Hospital in The Medical Center in critical condition. Deputies expect them to recover.

"This is obviously tougher than most. It's Father's Day and Father's Day is supposed to be a celebration and this one has turned into a tragedy," said Harvey.

Deputies said Dumesnil, showed signs of impairment at the scene and admitted to drinking two Bloody Marys. Investigators obtained a warrant to draw a blood sample.

Dumesnil was subsequently charged with two counts of felony murder and one count of intoxication assault.

Aguirre's family is struggling to raise money for the couple's funeral and continuing care for their now orphaned children.

An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank for donations. It's the Alejandro Aguirre and Maurilia Meza Memorial Account, No. 1211187354. A GoFundMe site has also been established under the name of the children's aunt, Yessica Carrizales.
