17-year-old girl groped by stranger in parking lot

HOUSTON – A 17-year-old Katy girl was getting into her truck Sunday afternoon when a strange man approached her. The incident happened in a parking lot in the 500 block of South Mason Road at 1:30 p.m.

“He just complimented me and said, ‘Oh, you’re so beautiful.’” The teen told KPRC. “He just kind of grabbed me and pulled me into a hug.”

She was on the phone with her mom and was trying to push the man away.

“Then he started kissing my cheek and started trying to make out with me, I shoved him and then I jumped in my truck, locked the door and he walked away. I knew if I freaked out or screamed that he could have done something a lot worse.”

During the struggle, she was disconnected from her mom.

“I just thought she was talking to a friend,” her mom said in an interview. “Ten minutes later she called me back in hysterics, crying.”

The women called the police, who arrived in a matter of minutes.

There is a Precinct 5 Constables Office located just across the parking lot from where the incident happened.

Deputies searched the area but the man was gone. Apparently, he’s been seen in the parking lot before.

“We heard it happened two weeks prior to someone else in that same parking lot,” her mom said.

The victim told KPRC the man appeared to be homeless. He was white and very tan, in his late 50s and had a scar on his left cheek near his eye. He was short, about 5 feet 1 inch – 5 feet 2 inches tall and had a bandanna on.

Now, the women have a message and warning for others who shop and frequent that area.

“Just be careful, don’t go anywhere alone,” the 17-year-old said.

“Talk to your children and your girls,” said her mom. “I was the lucky one who got to say goodnight last night.  In other cases I may not have been so lucky.”
