10,000 Guard troops coming to Texas from other states

Governor adds 14 counties to federal disaster declaration

AUSTIN, Texas – About 10,000 National Guard troops are traveling to Texas to assist state Guardsmen with rescue and recovery efforts, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday.

The out-of-state troops are in addition to the 14,000 Texas troops who have already been deployed, Abbott said.

The governor said he is also adding 14 counties to the federal disaster declaration.

Abbott said people and governments in Colorado, Fayette, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Montgomery, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Jacinto and Waller counties will be eligible for federal assistance.

Five other counties outside of southeast Texas are part of the declaration because the governments there have assisted in sheltering storm victims.

Abbott encouraged storm victims to register for assistance as soon as possible at DisasterAssistance.gov.

The governor also said the Attorney General is taking aggressive action to crack down on price gouging.
