Sheriff's office releases names of stepfather, 2 teens in death investigation

KATY, Texas – A man and two teenage girls, ages 14 and 16, are dead in west Harris County from apparent gunshot wounds, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident was reported around 3:40 a.m. in the 3800 block of Silverhawk Drive.

Investigators said the teen's mother arrived home around 3:30 a.m. and called investigators when she could not locate the two girls and the man, Victor Portillo -- the girls' 40-year-old stepfather, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

The girls were identified as Maria, 14 and Isabella Perez, 16.

The three were located upstairs in the home and appeared to have been shot, he said.

Gonzalez said investigators are not ruling out any possibilities in the course of the investigation, but said there is no immediate threat to the community.

“At this point we don’t have anything to indicate that there’s an immediate threat or an ongoing threat to the community but as we always do it there is something that becomes known that others need to be aware of we’ll provide that information and take precautions but at this point there doesn’t appear to be any threat to the broader community out here," Gonzalez said.
