America's first African-American owned hostel is now open right here in Houston

From sports to rodeo to a "Beyonce" themed room, a glimpse inside "Wanderstay"

HOUSTON - Deidre Mathis, owner of Wanderstay, is turning her passion for travel into a business. 

"It's a lot of work, but I absolutely love it. All of it," - Deidre Mathis, Wanderstay Houston Owner.

According to Deidre, she's the first African-American woman to own a hostel in the United States. 

"I'm so excited to add some diversity in the travel industry, in the hospitality industry," said Mathis.

The opening of Wanderstay Houston was such a big deal, Mayor Sylvester Turner attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
