The Houston Ballet prepares for the world premiere of 'Sylvia'

Derrick chats with principal dancer Jessica Collado, who dances as Artemis

HOUSTON – The Houston Ballet is preparing for the world premiere of it's newest production, 'Sylvia'.

The ballet, by Stanton Welch AM, tells the story of three mythical women whose worlds collide.

As described by HoustonBallet.org:

Stanton Welch AM brings his own interpretation to the classic story of the strong mythological heroine, the huntress Sylvia, and her love for a mortal shepherd. The ballet follows her journey as she’s torn between her duty and her desires. Welch’s inspired work will showcase a constellation of figures from Greek mythology woven together in a tapestry of three love stories.

Principal dancer Jessica Collado dances the role of Artemis, one of the female leads in the show.

Houston Life host Derrick Shore joins Collado at rehearsal to talk about the upcoming show, and what it's like to dance using a bow.

The show runs from February 21 - March 3.
