Have you noticed construction at the zoo? Something big is happening!

Hard-hat tour shows progress of the new Texas Wetlands exhibit

HOUSTON – Something new is happening at the zoo!

The Heart of the Zoo project is well underway behind all that green fencing you've been seeing on your recent visits.

It includes the Cypress Circle Café and the Texas Wetlands Exhibit.

According to the Houston Zoo's website:

The Texas Wetlands exhibit will engage visitors in the zoo’s breeding, monitoring, rehabilitation, and release programs with local species of birds, reptiles, bats, and pollinators; students can connect this exhibit with hands-on, in-the-field conservation work experienced through zoo-led education programs.

Houston Zoo Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Kolasinski said it's an important project that begins the rest of the centennial master plan.

"We are really excited about this," said Kolasinski. "For the several million people who visit every year, this is really going to be a great amenity, a place to relax... a place to take a break as you're walking through the zoo."

Kolasinski confirmed that this project will be complete and open to the public in time for Zoo Lights this year.
