Tracking changes in the stock market

HOUSTON – Investing in the stock market?  Private wealth advisor Trevor Shakiba explains a recent survey that found most Americans believed the stock market had been flat over the last decade.

According to the survey by Betterment, 48 percent of 2,000 American adults surveyed in August 2018 thought the US stock market had been flat over the last 10 years.  Another 18 percent of the 2,000 folks surveyed thought the US stock market had declined over the last 10 years.  Shakiba suggests the actual data presents a much different story.

"It’s because of emotion, people doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, panicking, selling at the bottom and then buying at the top. You’ve got to take emotion out when it comes to investing," Shakiba said.
