HOUSTON - Officials say hundreds of transplant patients' files were recently stolen from Houston Methodist Hospital.

An encrypted laptop and some paper files were stolen on Thursday, according to hospital officials.

The files contained the information of 1,300 transplant patients.

Officials said that information included names, birth dates and social security numbers.

Houston Methodist said it has notified Houston police and are investigating the theft.
