HOUSTON – According to a local plastic surgeon, men have been the fastest-growing new clients in recent years.

John Britton, 53, had an eyelid lift.

"Over the years, the eyelid on the left continued to droop a little bit and I developed a hood on my right eye," he said. "The look of it was affecting how I felt about myself."

Dr. Mirwat Sami from Houston Ocufacial in Bellaire said men are her fastest-growing plastic surgery patients.

Sami said most people prefer the holidays for procedures because they don't have to take off time from work and they're about to reunite with loved ones.

"You know people, especially even men now looking to have lasers, skin resurfacing, there's a lot of that especially in the winter season it's great because there's less sun exposure after laser procedures," she said.

Sami said the other biggest trend this season is going natural. Hollywood makeovers are out.

"It's really just very unnatural, it looks so done," she said. "One of the fillers that I've been using a lot of is Volbella."

Volbella is estimated to last twice as long as previous injectable fillers, patients report less bruising and it's smoother.

"It allows it to be a very smooth injection so it's not a stiff one and, you know, with filler patients it's all about what we're trying to treat. Every lip is different from the other person so in some people you need volume, some you need definition and others you need both. So, Volbella works really well when we really just want a very soft, natural, increase in volume," Sami said.

Britton said looking natural was most important to him when he got his eyelid lift, and it's given him the confidence he was looking for.

"The only comment anybody really made was that my friend said that I looked well-rested and that was like 'oh, that's it' I still want to look like me," Britton said. "I'm just a wide awake and alert me."

The most important thing to ensure a safe surgery is to find a doctor who's certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Then cross reference them on Texas Medical Board to make sure you feel comfortable with their practice.
