Friday Freebies: Haircuts, books, concerts and more

Whether you are soaking up the summer on your last week of freedom before school starts, or you're down to the wire getting your little one ready to head back to school, consumer expert Amy Davis has you covered on this Freebie Friday.

All kids 17 and younger can get a free haircut at Remington College's Greenspoint or Webster campuses through Aug. 31. Parents can also get a free cut, manicure or pedicure when they bring a donation of school supplies. Walk-ins are welcome, but check out the hours before you drive over.

Remington College Greenspoint Campus
Dates: Tuesday, August 1 - Thursday, August 31

Remington College Webster Campus

Hours: Mon-Wed-Thurs-Fri, 9:30 am to 11 a.m. & 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
             Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Head to Kingwood Town Center for the Free Kids Fest on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  They'll have a huge kids zone, a petting zoo and performances with your kids' favorite characters.

On the west side, see the Poky Little Puppy at Blue Willow Bookshop for the Golden Books Bus Tour. The pop-up bookstore on wheels will roll up to 14532 Memorial Dr. at 1 p.m. with kid friendly activities to celebrate 75 years of Little Golden Books.

In Missouri City, Christian Bible Church Powerhouse of Love will hold its annual Back To School Xplosion. The event is jam packed with free concerts, games, face painting, an exotic car show, bounce house and a water slide. There will be a variety of food trucks and other goodies. Plus, a backpack giveaway. Kids will receive free backpacks, donated by members of the church and community, stuffed with school supplies.

The event is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 3222 Texas Parkway.

Engage with reptiles Saturday or Sunday at Jesse H. Jones park in Humble from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. From the largest pythons to the smallest frogs, the nature center is packed with live reptiles and amphibians from around the world.
