Home remedies for the flu

Winter's here meaning the cold and flu season inevitably is too. Symptoms of the flu can range from a runny nose and sore throat to fever, body aches, vomiting and more. And since it's a viral infection, antibiotics won't help. Here are some simple at-home remedies to help relieve symptoms if the flu hits your household this season.

-- Rest, rest and rest some more.

-- Drink lots of water and other clear liquids to stay hydrated.

-- Eat bone broth or chicken noodle soup to provide nutrients.

-- Take a steamy shower to open up up nasal passages.

-- Gargle salt water to help alleviate a sore throat.

-- Try Peppermint or Ginger tea to calm digestive issues and a fever.

-- Pop a Vitamin C and/or Vitamin D tablet each morning to help increase the immune system.

-- If you are an adult, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help reduce a fever and muscle aches.

-- Add a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to a humidifier to keep the air clear of bad bacteria.

-- Clear clogged nasal passageways with a nasal rinse.
