Have a hankering to throw an ax? Houston's got an ax for that

HOUSTON – How’s your ax-throwing arm, Houston? Don’t know? Well, you can try it out this weekend, or whenever, at a new business near the Southwest Freeway specializing in the activity of ax-throwing -- and there's a Groupon!

Houston Axe Throwing, located at 6734 Larkwood Drive, is Houston’s take on a trend sweeping the nation from our northern neighbors. Canadians have thrown axes competitively for years.

It’s kind of like darts, but with rotation, and – an ax.

If you’re concerned about safety, Houston Axe Throwing has this nugget: “Provided that participants follow the instructions and safety rules explained by our staff and use common sense, throwing an ax is safe.

"Our experienced and highly trained staff are in the throwing arena with you at all times and monitor your throws for safety and guide you through the entire process. Only participants (who) have gone through our safety course are allowed to enter the throwing arena.

"There is no passing of axes between players and players must follow specific instructions from their ax supervisor.”

There is a waiver to sign, covering everything from potential injury to photography.

For $25 per person, you can throw axes for 90 minutes. For $35 per person, you can throw axes for two and a half hours.
