HOUSTON – While she wouldn't give any specific details about her Super Bowl LI halftime show, Lady Gaga said on Thursday that viewers should "get excited" to see something they haven't seen before.
Houston will host the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons for the NFL championship game at NRG Stadium on Sunday evening.
The “Perfect Illusion” singer has already announced her desire to play on the roof of the stadium. She would not say in the news conference Thursday if that would actually happen. Sky 2 was flying over NRG Stadium earlier this week as workers were seen walking around on the roof.
Gaga, 30, said she talked to Tony Bennett about her halftime performance, and without releasing any specific details, she said her main goal is to make a statement that is true to her core values.
"Well, I don't know if I'll succeed in unifying America," Gaga said. "I believe in a passion for inclusion and the spirit of equality. My performance will uphold those philosophies."
Houston's Simone Biles asked Gaga during her news conference if she would be doing any high flying acts, much like Biles used to do, but Gaga was very tight lipped about her plans for her performance.
"I want to keep as much of the show as surprise as possible, but I will say it will be a tremendously athletic show," Gaga said.
Gaga has posted several pictures and videos on social media, showing her in Houston, preparing for her halftime performance.
The musician is no stranger to the Super Bowl. She performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” during last year’s game.
