Get to know Joel Edgerton

With "The Gift" in theaters this past weekend, get to know Joel Edgerton, the man who wrote, directed and starred in the movie.

Joel was born in Blacktown, New South Wales, Austraila.His parents are Marianne and Michael Edgerton, a solicitor and property developer.His brother, Nash Edgerton, is also a filmmaker. Edgerton went to the Nepean Drama School in 1994.He got his first break with the 2001 television series "The Secret Life of Us."Edgerton was nominated for an AFI award for his role in the series.Edgerton was Gawain in 2004's "King Arthur."He was next in "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith."In 2005, Edgerton starred in "Kinky Boots," which was later made into a Broadway play.Joel appeared as Hugo Croop in "Smokin' Aces" in 2006.He provided the voice for the character Metal Beak in "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" in 2010.Shortly after in 2011, he starred with Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte in the critically acclaimed "Warrior."That year, Edgerton also was a part of "The Thing."Alongside Jennifer Garner, he starred in 2012's "The Odd Life of Timothy Green."2013 gave him the role that he said "ticked all the boxes for him" as Tom Buchanan in "The Great Gatsby."
