Walmart to roll out more curbside grocery pick-up service

HOUSTON – Grocery shopping in Houston is getting easier every day as the curbside pick-up trend continues. Walmart  is in on the movement to save customers time.

Walmart offered the order-online pick-up the groceries at the curb service at 19 Houston-area stores, and more will be getting the service next month. We featured HEB and Kroger's curbside pick-up programs last month. The difference with Walmart's service versus others is that there is no extra fee for the service?

"Sometimes, there's a line, or sometimes you think something's in a certain place, and it's not, and you're kind of going back and forth through the store," said Giselle Garcia, explaining why grocery shopping can be so frustrating and time consuming. 

Customers only need to navigate the website, fill a virtual cart, and reserve a time to pick-up your groceries. It can even be the same day. Order by 1 a.m. to pick up by 8 a.m. Place an order by 10 a.m. for pick-up as early as 4 p.m. As long as you buy $30 worth of merchandise, the service won't cost you anything. Walmart employees will wheel your groceries out to your car while you sit inside.

"I can pull up, get my groceries and go home and unload," said Rhonda Cooper, who was picking up her order at the Pearland Walmart while her 4-month-old cooed in the backseat. 

"It gives me back about an hour and a half of my week every week," Brenda Richard said.

Richard liked that she can use the Walmart app to conveniently shop when she has time.

"So I'm in the middle of doing laundry and I realize 'Oh! I'm running low on detergent.' So I can just add it on the app," said Richard.  

Customers can order up to 3 weeks in advance and just schedule a pick-up time. Customers can order from the pharmacy, health and beauty, and toy departments.
