Toys R Us liquidation sales delayed until Friday

Toys R Us hoped to start liquidation sales at most of its U.S. stores Thursday, but  a spokesperson told CNN Money that the sales are likely to be delayed until Friday.

The iconic toy giant hopes to complete the sales by the end of June.

Some stores may close sooner if inventory sells out faster. The timetable came out of the latest bankruptcy hearing for the struggling toy chain Tuesday afternoon.

Toys R Us abruptly filed for bankruptcy liquidation last week after years of increasingly sluggish sales.

Toys R Us is still hoping to keep 200 American stores open in hopes a buyer out of Canada is interested in taking them over as part of a package deal to sell its Canadian stores.
