HOUSTON - Our Summer of Safety campaign is designed to help keep you and your family safe this summer.

While you may not be at work following the July 4th holiday, many of you may have yard work on your to-do list.  We found some key information when it comes to keeping your children safe while they help out.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommendations about lawn mower safety.  The group said children younger than 16 should not be allowed to use riding lawn mowers.  The group said children younger than 12 should not use push mowers.

If you have hills or slopes on your property, the Academy advised you mow them up and down, not across.  That will help keep your mower from rolling over.

Finally, anyone outside while yard work is being done should wear protective goggles.
