ORLANDO, Fla. – A recent study by Consumer Reports found that Costco and a few other online prescription websites beat drugstore prices.
For example, a month’s supply of the generic drug Cymbalta costs $43 at Costco but a whopping $249 at a well-known drugstore.
While it’s convenient to purchase gift cards at the drugstore, you should avoid buying the greeting cards that go along with them. They may cost $4 versus $0.50 at dollar stores.
Batteries, a kid’s toy and games should also be avoided. Batteries can cost up to 70 percent less at warehouse clubs, and you can find better deals on those toys and games online.
Depending on the day, some drugstores have great deals on laundry detergent, paper products, and cereal. Not only will they discount them, but you can earn reward points toward future purchases, as well.
Avoid cleaning products. They usually cost less at big box stores.
A few more things to avoid at drugstores and big box stores include office and school supplies, as well as women’s hair accessories such as scrunches and headbands. These can all be found for a lot less at dollar stores.
One thing drugstores are great for is seasonal items. You can usually stock up on decorations and related holiday items, in advance and at a good price.
