Don't fall for the latest robocall scam

HOUSTON - We're hearing from viewers in Fort Bend County who are getting phone calls from area code 386.

That is Slovenia, and yes, the calls are part of a scam being perpetrated all across the world.

Here is how it works: Your phone rings once and not again, or maybe you pick up but no one is on the other end. The scammer wants you to call back, worried you may have missed an important call.

When others have done that, they were charged exorbitant rates. You may be put on hold or you might reach a real person whose goal is to keep you on the line as long as possible to keep charging you for the call.

If you get a call or a text from Slovenia, or any area code you don't recognize, don't answer. And definitely don't call back.
