Back 2 School: Tips and tricks to get organized

HOUSTON – There is a whole lot of organization that goes into getting ready for back-to-school. There are clothes, supplies and lunches to consider.

Whether you've got a preschooler or an eight-grader, these are ideas that can make your life easier from the morning routines to the after school homework crunch time.

You can start with a little prep work at the beginning of each week.

Houston blogger Nora Kapche keeps the chaos that comes with picking out clothes each  morning under control by putting five outfits together with socks and accessories in their own bin or bag labeled with the day it will be worn.

The pre-selected outfits take away the last-minute decisions that can slow you down when you're in a hurry to get out the door.

Get your little ones on board with a morning routine checklist. There are links to printables for free online. The charts have lists with reminders like, eat breakfast, brush your teeth and brush your hair. If you put the checklist in a glass frame, your child can use a dry erase marker to check off the items each morning. There are also charts for the afternoon so that your student stays on task and gets homework and chores done without you asking 15 times.

Whether you're making lunches or you let your child make their own, having a lunchbox cupboard will make it easier to have everything you need within reach.

Designate a backpack and shoe cubby in your home, so they don't all end up on the floor when they come in the door.

If your child does their homework at the kitchen table, make a homework study station out of a tri-fold foam display board. It can help keep them from getting distracted.
