The Social Security Administration said thieves are impersonating its employees and calling citizens.
The fraudsters claim that you are due a cost of living increase and they just need to get some information from you so they can increase your check.

The administration warns if you give out your personal information, the thieves can edit your data to have your check sent to them.
If you receive one of these suspicious calls, you should report it to the agency's office of the Inspector General by calling 1-800-269-0271. You can also submit your complaint online.
