6 ways to save at Target

It's no secret that popping into Target for one item you need can easily turn into a $100 trip; but there are some lesser-known tips to saving money at the bull's-eye. Consumer expert Amy Davis is sharing 6 ways to save.

If you haven't downloaded Target's Cartwheel app, you should. Just by letting the cashier scan your phone at checkout, you earn points that you can redeem for things like free laundry detergent, pet or beauty products. While you're in the store, you can look at the Cartwheel app for instant discounts, like 20% off decorative accessories. There are dozens of discounts you'll only get through the free app. You can triple stack savings on cartwheel by adding a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon all for the same item.

Wine on a dime with Target's own boxed wine called Wine Cube. One $20 cube is the equivalent of 4 regular bottles of wine, so it's like paying $5 a bottle.

Planning your baby's first birthday? Most people don't know that if you buy the cake at a Target bakery, you can get a smash cake for free just by asking for one.

Super-Target bakeries also give free cookies or fresh fruit to kids under 12 on each visit.
Davis is not an advocate of opening up credit cards just for a discount; but Target also offers a debit card that links directly to your bank account. It saves you 5% on everything you buy plus free shipping on all of your online purchases.
