Ever Brite: No wires, no electricity needed

As Seen on TV Tuesday

Keeping your home well-lit is one way to ward off thieves and burglars. But what if you don't want your house lit up like an airport runway all night? Security lighting can be expensive, too, if you can get an electrician to wire it all.

Looking at alternatives, consumer expert Amy Davis tested a much less expensive device that you can find in the "As Seen on TV" aisle of most stores.

The Ever Brite light is $13. The manufacturer claims it will last a lifetime. It is solar powered. Ever Brite charges up during the day and turns on automatically at night. It stays very dimly lit until an attached motion sensor detects movement nearby when it turns on much brighter.

The light comes with an adhesive strip attached that will adhere to most surfaces like siding or wood. There are also holes where you can mount the light with screws.

Davis attached the light to the side of her home to light up a walkway that is very dark at night. While the light did make a big difference, Ever Brite claims that it can sense motion from up to 12 feet away. Ever Brite didn't turn on to its bright setting until Davis walked almost directly in front of it.

Ever Brite is also waterproof. Since it's solar powered, you won't add any expense to your power bill. You need to make sure it is in an area where it will get plenty of sunlight during the day.
