Fall in love with these Valentine's Day freebies

HOUSTON – Looking for Valentine's Day fun?  It won't take Cupid's arrow to fall in love with these free events.

For a special floral display from the heart, Cornelius Nursery is offering a special Valentine's Day class on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

"We help you select the plants," said Kay Stephens, a designer at the nursery. "We'll show you which ones that do best in the shade and the ones that do best in the sun. These look good together."

Participants only need to buy the plants and the pot. The soil, workspace and help from the pro come free. Guests can even bring the kids to create a Valentine's Day memory for mom or dad.

Parents looking for a Valentine's Day treat for their little one can go to Jerrybuilt Burgers in West University or The Woodlands. The restaurant is offering free dessert with the purchase of a kid's meal all day Saturday. For the parents, beer and wine is half-priced.

Ruggles Green is also offering free dessert for everyone who orders a daily special and shows a little affection on Saturday. And there's free dessert from Fish City Grill for the first 50 couples who show up to watch "Blended" on an outdoor screen at Central Green Park in Katy at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

For anyone looking for a new addition to the family, The Houston Humane Society is waving adoption fees on certain cats and dogs. The shelter is offering half off on other pets through Sunday.
