HOUSTON – Houstonians Adam Burck and Inez Moriarty are on a mad dash to raise serious cash for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in honor of their family members who battled blood cancer.
They are fundraisers in LLS's Man and Woman of the Year campaign to raise money for blood cancer research, awareness and patient services.
Burck's father died in January, 2015, after a six-week battle with acute myeloid leukemia. His goal is to raise $100,000 and honor his dad with a research grant, in his dad's name, made by LLS. On Saturday, May 13, Burck is hosting a fundraiser at Fuddruckers in Meyerland, where a portion of the day's proceeds will go to his campaign.
Moriarty is a veteran fundraiser for LLS. Her daughter, Chelsea, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia when she was nine years old. She beat it. This fall she will start medical school at Tufts University as part of her mission to end cancer.
On Saturday, May 20th, Moriarty is hosting Rock & Roll For The Cure - Featuring Shinyribs. It's an evening of music at The Heights Theater. Proceeds from the event will go to her fundraising campaign.
