5 holiday happenings in Houston area this weekend

HOUSTON – There are lots of things going on this weekend in the Houston area. Here’s a rundown of some of our favorites happening between Dec. 15 to 17.

1. Ugly Sweater Party

It's the most wonderful time of the year when we have an excuse to wear that most hideous of sweaters. Howl at the Moon is hosting an Ugly Sweater Party on Friday. Doors open at 7 p.m. Wear a holiday sweater for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

2. Christmas in the Park

Head to George Ranch Historical Park in Richmond and explore the holidays through history. The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and costs $5.

3. Magical Winter Lights

Take in some holiday fun at this larger-than-life festival that takes a multicultural approach to the holidays. The event runs until Jan. 2 at Gulf Greyhound Park and is open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

4. Frosty the Snowman musical

Company OnStage presents this timeless Christmas favorite on Saturday and Sunday at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 4930 W. Bellfort Avenue. Tickets start at $10, but discounts are available.

5. Day for Night Festival

This one isn't really a holiday-centric event, but it sure has lots of lights. Musical and visual artists perform from Friday to Sunday at the old Post Office at 401 Franklin St.
