HOUSTON – A very cold stretch of weather in Houston is about to get colder! Skies will begin to clear in southeast Texas between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, which will allow for sub-freezing morning low temperatures for much of the region. Metropolitan Houston's best chance for a morning freeze will be on Thanksgiving, when temperatures could dip into the upper 20s.
While a light freeze may affect areas north of Houston Wednesday morning, Thursday morning looks like the coldest this week. North and northeast of Houston, in places like Conroe, Huntsville, Livingston and Lufkin, temperatures will drop to between 23 and 28 degrees for six to eight hours. Elsewhere, upper 20s to low 30s will be common.

The freezing temperatures will definitely impact delicate plants and outdoor pets, so take precautions to protect them between Tuesday evening through Friday morning. The risk for freezing pipes is low for the majority of southeast Texas, as temperatures will not drop low enough for a long enough period of time to cause water pipes to freeze and rupture. If any issues with water pipes DO occur, it would be Thursday morning in the sector well north and northeast of Houston that will experience the 23 to 28 degree low temperatures.
By the end of the week, temperatures will begin to moderate as the persistent north wind we have experienced for several days finally shifts to the east and southeast.
