HOUSTON – Labor Day weekend will likely start with spotty wet weather. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will dot the landscape on Saturday and Sunday as a surge of Gulf moisture gets pulled into southeast Texas on the back side of Tropical Depression Isaac.
If you're planning to be outside, either working or playing, keep an eye to the sky as early as mid- to late-morning for passing showers and storms. Rainfall won't be particularly heavy for most of us, with totals averaging 1/4- to 1/2-inch for those of us that do get rain. As we all know, though, in the sultry southern summertime rainfall totals can top an inch or more in isolated areas in the blink of an eye, so don't be caught off guard!

As the weekend progresses, the slug of moisture in the area will dissipate and eventually be taken over by dry air that stays in place for the majority of next week. Therefore, rain chances will be best on Saturday, at 40 percent, with lower chances on Sunday (30 percent) and little to no chance by Labor Day itself. So, if you have outdoor plans for Monday to celebrate the holiday, you'll likely only have to be concerned about the heat -- in the mid 90s -- because the rain should be out of here!
