Weekend weather promises start of warming trend

Temperatures should be closer to seasonal averages after prolonged cool spell

HOUSTON – Temperatures have been cool for the past five days.  In fact, we haven't been above 70 degrees since Sunday, which makes this most recent cool spell the longest of the season!

The weekend is almost upon us and the holiday season is gearing up full force.  Thanksgiving is less than a week away, holiday ads are littering the airwaves,  garland is going up at shopping centers from Cypress to Seabrook and The Ice at Discovery Green kicks off Saturday.  What better time for us to head into a warm spell!

Yes, the weather is going to get warmer next week, and the trend begins this weekend.  If you're brimming with excitement for a drive to Discovery Green to take a spin on the newly-erected rink, you may want a pair of shorts to go with your skates if you're heading out in the afternoon.  Evenings will still be a little cool, so jeans and a jacket will work well when night falls.

While temperatures won't skyrocket this weekend, we will finally see 70 for the first time in a week by Saturday afternoon.  Sunday should top out a couple of degrees warmer than that.  Overnight lows this weekend will remain a little chilly, as we bottom out in the 40s.

By the middle of next week, though, we'll be into the upper 70s for afternoon highs and in the mid 50s to 60 degrees for overnight lows -- well above normal for this time of year.  'Tis the season, right?
