HOUSTON - It's that time of year again! The swelter of summer begins to fade and we feel a building urge to get outside and away from the air-conditioned confines of our homes and offices.
For those of you planning to act on that urge and get some outdoor activity in, the weather this weekend will cooperate nicely. While it won't be unseasonably cool, tolerable humidity levels will take the edge off the heat and make it a pleasure to soak up some sun and breathe in the fresh air. Highs will be in the upper 80s to 90 degrees and lows will drop into the mid to upper 60s around town. Sunshine will be abundant throughout the weekend.
Outdoor events and activities are beginning to get more plentiful around the area, so finding things to do shouldn't be too tough. Those taking part in the Tour de Cure, which raises funds for the American Diabetes Association, will set out Saturday morning for a 10-, 27-, 47-, 630- or 100-mile bike ride. On Sunday, the Galveston 5150 Triathlon takes place. If you're more into being a spectator than a participant, there are home football games for Rice University, Texas A&M, and TSU on Saturday. And, if sports aren't your thing at all, then there's always the Galveston Shrimp Festival, which kicks off Friday evening and runs all weekend long.
This is just a small sampling of the events taking place this weekend. The point is that this time of year is a re-awakening in the Houston area and there is no shortage of things to do to celebrate it to the fullest. And, with the weekend looking to be about as beautiful as they come this time of year, there's no excuse not to get in on the action!
