Rainy weekend ahead

Chances for needed rain go up through Saturday

HOUSTON – So far, September has brought us some spectacular weather. One thing we've missed, however, is rain.

Most places around southeast Texas are one to two inches of rain in the hole for the month so far.  A forecast including rain, then, is a welcome thing.  The only problem is that it may put a damper on part of your weekend.

Rain chances around Houston will be going up between now and Saturday. A developing southeast wind will pump ample Gulf moisture into the area and a cold front that sweeps in from the north will stall over the coast by Friday.  The combination of the two will result in scattered showers and storms, especially between Thursday and Saturday.

Total rainfall could average about 1/2 inch north of Houston to about 1.5 inches along the coast.  This would certainly help to bring our September rain totals back into the normal range.

Right now it looks like we'll see a significant decrease in rain chances by Sunday, as the instability causing the rain should migrate east of the area.  Then, our next chance for rain comes early next week, on Tuesday, as our next cold front pushes in.
