Nicole strengthens into hurricane, poses no threat to land

HOUSTON – What was Tropical Storm Nicole strengthened into a hurricane Thursday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm had winds of 80 mph. It was centered about 345 miles south Bermuda and was moving northwest at 8 mph.

Forecasters said Nicole will remain a hurricane through the weekend and weaken back into a tropical storm by Monday morning. The system will not move much until Tuesday, when it begins moving north.
