Newsmakers Extra: Awareness of payday loans trappings

HOUSTON – Dress for Success-Houston and the League of Women Voters Houston team up with the city of Houston for a free public education and awareness event about the failures in the financial services markets and the trappings of payday loans.

Lara Cottingham, the Deputy Assistant Director for the City of Houston Department of Administration & Regulatory Affairs, weighs in on what laws have been put in place by the city of Houston to protect citizens.

Amanda Watson is a volunteer literacy advisor for Dress for Success-Houston and talks about the best practices we should all use to stay out of financial crises.

The FREE public education and awareness event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Hope and Healing Center Auditorium in the St. Martin's Church complex at 717 Sage, Houston, Texas 77056.
